Very nice selection of recipes but could have benefited from more page-art/photos/stylization/etc., as well as a hardcover option.

Очень хорошая книга, я люблю готовить!
I like the way this book emphasizes the actual recipes rather than a lot of fancy photography. This allows much more room to include different versions of the recipes as will as historical information.
A very good and easy to understand CookBook. Also easy to find ingredients. You do not have to go to special stores to locate..
A delightfully comprehensive cookbook of many new and familiar recipes of Russian cuisine!
Another excellent publication from Russian Life. As a second generation man from a Lithuanian father and a Slovak mom these recipes bring me back to the days of my youth. Good food and fond memories. Thank you, Russian Life!
I am very impressed and love the book recipes & history in the book!
I like that the author not only included recipes but also the background stories. So many of the recipes sound so good that I can't wait to actually try them. I've been enjoying just reading the cookbook so far.
Learning the Russian language and have visited Russia several times; I love to recreate the taste sensations I've experienced and immerse myself in all things Russian. I have several 'Russian' cookbooks, but none compare to 'A Taste of Russia'. 'A Taste of Russia' is very comprehensive with all the traditional dishes; recipes are clearly written and easy to follow. I like the fact that recipe names are written both in Russian and English and I enjoy the interesting and well written introductions to each section of the book. An excellent cookbook!
A Taste of Russia is the definitive modern cookbook on Russian cuisine, layering superbly researched recipes with informative essays on the dishes' rich historical and cultural context. With over 200 recipes on everything from borshch to blini, from Salmon Coulibiac to Beef Stew with Rum, from Marinated Mushrooms to Walnut-honey Filled Pies, A Taste of Russia shows off the best that Russian cooking has to offer.

"Goldstein... manages to make Russian cuisine dance. It's hard to imagine anything that might have been left out of this delightfully comprehensive collection."
– Publishers Weekly
"The imaginative range of the selection would be enlightening in itself even without the multitudinous snippets from Chekhov, Gogol and Oblomov. First rate."
– Kirkus Reviews
"It is not suprising that Goldstein, a Williams College professor who later founded the food studies journal Gastronomica, is particularly literary in her books on Russian and Georgian food, placing zakuska (grand appetizer buffets) and dacha (summer house) picnics alike in the context of Russia's great writers. But cerebral as she can be, her prose is rooted in hands-on kitchen advice: 'There are a few basic rules to follow in laying a zakuska table, not the least of which concerns the shape of the table itself. It should be oval or round and placed away from the wall, so that all foods are accessible to all guests at all times.' "
– Slate Magazine
"This is simply the best and most complete book on Russian cooking in English."
– Suzanne Massie
